Dear Supporting Churches and Friends, 4/1/2010
Praise The Lord we finally have a church building and it is just what we need at this time. Just about 45 Days ago we started The King of Grace Baptist Church in my living room and a couple of weeks latter God gave us a building to rent. This is an old Missionary Baptist Church so there are no zoning problems, it will seat about 50 people comfortably. It is on a half acre of land and is right where two major highways meet Lake Mead and Martin Luther King Blvd.
This is a very bad part of town you might say that it is about three feet from hell. It is full of the kind of people that we are after that is the ones that no one else in this town seems to want.
This church is nothing more then a rescue mission and soup kitchen which is just what we came here to start
(PRAISE THE LORD).
We have done a lot of remodeling since we moved in, things like pulling up the old ratty carpet and putting down nice tile. Also taking down the old popcorn ceiling and making it a smooth textured ceiling. We removed the very old and ugly red, badly stained pews and replaced them with beautiful padded blue chairs. This way we can move the chairs and use it for a multipurpose room. Brother Cliff Taylor stopped by for a few weeks and he made me a customized pulpit. He also built a wooden platform and did a whole lot of other things and gave me a lot of his wisdom when it comes to remodeling a church and the ministry in general. He was our first visiting preacher. Today even as I am writing this letter my associate Matt Presley, who is a professional painter by trade, is painting the inside of the auditorium and next week we will put up our new church signs.
This little mission church already has a kitchen area so we just need to purchase a few items like a pantry, a freezer and hot water heater then we can start feeding people.
Our first service was held on Sunday morning March14, 2010 we had my family and Brother Matt Presley. On Sunday night we had our first visitor who was a man that was raised in my old neighborhood in LA California and we are the same age. The gang he was in was a rival to the gang I was in, so as Brother Jerry Sutek said we could have been in the war together. This man’s name is Derrick not only is he saved but a preacher as well. We have had other visitors since then, please pray that they will keep coming.
As for the family we are all doing well, I am still working a part time job but only for a few more weeks and then I will have to find a new job. My support has come up some (Thank the Lord) but I still need $700 dollars more a month so we can make our bills this is about what my secular job brings in.
I will close for now if you do not support us now I would like to ask that you would pray about taking us on as your missionaries to the street people of Las Vegas.
We will pictures in the near future.
